Silver Threepences were initially struck in the reign of Edward 6th, milled ones were struck from the middle of the seventeenth century. All those Silver Threepences struck up to 1834 are considered as part of the Maundy coinage. From 1835 until they stopped being minted in 1944 they are considered as currency. In keeping with the other Silver coins they were struck in sterling Silver until 1919 and 0.5 Silver from 1920 until the end.
Famously they were put in Christmas puddings for children to find.
