Rare early Hammered coins

Posted by: R. Ingram Coins on August 14th 2014
Probably the most famous date in the entire English history is 1066. That is when the first Norman king took the throne, and modern history, so to speak, first took shape. For those who didn't like history, the Kings name was William 1st.
However, England was already a nation when William took to the throne and had been since 924 when King Aethelstan took over. Here is a list of those very early kings who had power when England was first established as a whole country, rather than a series of loose alliances as previous.

Aethelstan 924-939
Eadmund 939-946
Eadred 946-955
Eadwig 955-959
Eadgar 959-975
Edward The Martyr 975-978
Aethelred 2nd 978-1016
Cnut 1016-1035
Harold 1035-1040
Hathacnut 1035-1042
Edward The Confessor 1042-1066

Coins from these periods are all very collectible, some are very rare, whereas other are not as rare as you might think. You can buy various cut coins from as little as £50, though a full Penny in decent grade will set you back several hundreds.
We have recently picked up a lovely collection of rare early hammered coins, keep an eye on our website for these which should be uploaded in the next couple of weeks. We do however already have a very impressive selection and these can be viewed here.

We have just uploaded our brand new late Summer catalogue. It is easily the most extensive we have ever produced and we are confident you won't find any bigger, or better. We have a fantastic selection of Gold, including the vast majority of dates from 1817.

In Silver we have many choice pieces, including a lovely 1679 Crown, and lots of rare proofs; in Copper we have dozens of rare varieties, and our hammered includes many key rulers, including the very rare Harold 2nd. Over the next few days we will be picturing all our new coins but in the meantime here is a taster:

Posted by: R. Ingram Coins on May 20th 2014
Unlike many other sites, this site is constantly changing. We keep it bang up to date and are now adding new coins on a very regular basis. Recently we have added hundreds of decimal coins as well as lots of new Foreign. In the next day or two we will be adding many more foreign coins. You can view our list via PDF or we are very happy to send you a hard copy (list 108), it's by far and away our most comprehensive list to date.
Antique Coins
All of our coins over £100 now have images, and almost 2,000 coins are pictured on the site; It's not practical to photograph everything though, so if an item isn't pictured and you want one e-mail us your details and we will send you one as an e-mail attachment. Many of you have registered an account & placed orders with us. This makes it easier and quicker for you to use our site, please click on "customer login" in the top right and then register, it only takes a couple of minutes, if you need any help with this, do feel free to give us a call on 023 80324258 or e-mail: [email protected]coins.com

Our new list, 108, is now online, it's by far and away our most comprehensive list to date. We've got all the usual English material, and this time we have added a substantial number of foreign, including much new US.
The vast majority of coins over £100 have images, and we now have well over 1,800 coins pictured on the site; to get a larger image of a coin simply left click to the side of the thumbnail picture of the individual page.

Thank you for your continuing feedback, around 95% has been positive and we value it all, including the negative. We are also keen for suggestions which make this site easier for you to use. Many of you have registered an account & placed orders with us, others are just having a browse. We thank you all.

Lots of lots added

Posted by: R. Ingram Coins on April 4th 2014
We like lots, lots. We have just added a whole lot of them. Essentially if you want a bag or a sackful of coins, tell us what you want, and we will make up a selection and quote you a price. Amongst the lots on offer are all the major Silver denominations; you can buy 10 Crowns from the nineteenth century, 50 Half Crowns from 1947-1967, 20 half Silver Florins etc, etc. We sell lots of Brass, lots of Copper, and lots of Bronze. We even sell lots of Hammered coins, foreign, decimals and banknotes. We do like to cover all bases.
We know many people buy our lots with a view to selling on e-bay and that's fine, and if you just want to fill some gaps that's also fine. Whatever the reason, have a look at what we have to offer or tell us what you want, either way lets do some business.

Thanks for all the feedback we have received in the first few weeks of going online, most of its been positive and we've also had a few helpful suggestions about how we can make the site easier for you, we are currently working on these. Thanks to all those of you who have registered an account & placed orders with us, if you are just having a browse, thanks for looking.
Our new list, 107, is now online, we've added hundreds of interesting new items with images and now have well over 1,500 coins pictured on the site. Some people have asked us how to get larger images of coin(s). To get a larger picture simply left click to the side of the thumbnail picture of the individual page:

We also have a new stock management system so if you see a coin on this web-site, it will be available, so no more nervous e-mails or phone calls wondering if a coin has already been sold or is still for sale.
We look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome to our new web-site

Posted by: R. Ingram Coins on February 20th 2014

Hello & welcome to our new web-site.

It's taken a long while to get here, but here we are. We hope you agree with us that it was all worthwhile, and an improvement on the old site.

Various things are different.  We've added new search facilities by year for Milled coins, and by monarch for Hammered coins, as well as a price filter. We hope this will make it easier for you to find what you are looking for. It's also now possible to view our coins by list & grid view which are quite different options; you can also view our postal list in the form of a PDF if you prefer. We are still producing a hard copy; forward us your name and address if you would like a copy, and we will be happy to oblige.

We've added a lot of new, higher resolution pictures; this is something we will be doing during the coming weeks and months. We have a new shopping basket and we can now accept card payment.  We hope this will make it a little easier for you to order and pay for the coins you have selected.

We've kept a traditional-style order form for those who prefer this. If there is anything you are looking for that you can't see listed, please contact us as we always have a large amount of stock that is not listed.

After serving us well for many years, we have decided to dispense with our 5 character reference number.  It was simply too difficult to keep this with our new site. Please give us the denomination, price, year or monarch, and, with any luck, we should be able to work out what it is you are after.

We are hoping for minimal disruption, but please bear with us if you do have any teething troubles. Should you have ideas to make the site better or more user-friendly please do let us know - we always try to take constructive suggestions on board .

Please feel free to e-mail, ring or write to us if you'd like a coin, require pictures, would like some information or have any other comments. We really welcome your communications, and we actually like the telephone!

We will update this section frequently, so please do check us out regularly. We will try to keep it interesting & varied so that it will be worth viewing. We are also now established on Twitter as well as Facebook; follow and like us please, you will find our use of social media unusual, interesting and hopefully beneficial.

We hope you enjoy the web-site & the hobby of numismatics. It is truly the king of hobbies, and presents many excellent investment opportunities.

Thank you for visiting our site, and for taking the trouble to read this.

Rendel & Michael Ingram.
