Proof sets are special striking’s of the currency coins issued by the Royal Mint, available at the time of issue. The first year struck was 1746, then 1826, 1831, 1839, 1853, 1887, 1902, 1911, 1927, 1937, 1950, 1951, and 1953.
Since 1970 Proof sets have been issued yearly, often coming in many different versions, depending on the metal struck and the type of box they come in.
