Gold Five Pound coins were first minted as patterns in 1820, its next appearance was in 1826. The most famous of all five Pound coins is the Una and the lion issue of 1839, they were then struck in 1887. They have been struck irregularly since then. The modern five-pound issues are not issued for circulation but to mark events or commemorations of national or royal significance.
